Premiere Pro timeline frame control with Park's Tool products

Park's Tool products offer two ways to control the timeline of Premiere Pro.

The first method is a traditional one where you can configure the dial as an arrow key on the keyboard. Turning the dial left sends the left arrow signal, turning it right sends the right arrow signal, and clicking the button works as a "c" command, which is a cutting command just like on the keyboard. Once configured, the dial will work in this manner throughout the entire application, regardless of context. While this method is sufficient, it can lead to unexpected results since it literally sends keyboard signals.

The second way is to use the "Control Surface" feature from Premiere Pro. This allows the application to be controlled by a MIDI device. You would need to map the dial with MIDI notes and allocate those notes with Premiere Pro commands. The benefit of this method is that you can navigate in any context. For instance, if you're adding subtitles to a video clip and your keyboard cursor is on the text box, you can step forward or backward using the "Control Surface" feature without losing your context. If it was mapped with keyboard arrow keys, your cursor would move unintentionally.
